The most affordable of Canon's long telephoto zooms, this lens is excellent for subjects from portraits to wildlife and nature. It uses a DC motor for autofocus and offers close-focusing down to 4.9 feet, filling the frame with a subject the size of a dollar bill.

Zoom In

A zoom lens is a handy tool for getting those shots you want. The EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 really gets you in close on those distant subjects. The eye tends to see the whole rather than the individual parts. It also sees what's near and not what's far. By bringing attention to those things missed by the eye, you can create many interesting pictures. It could be the grimace of an athlete, the grill of a classic car, or a friend against a blurred background. Telephoto lenses can also compress images to give dramatic effects. You are limited only by your imagination.

It shares the same 13-element optical system as the 75-300mm USM lens, but uses a DC motor for autofocus. Close-focusing down to 4.9 feet allows filling the frame (at 300mm) with a subject the size of a dollar bill.

I was very disappointed in this particular lens. While the close up pictures were in focus and color was good at least some of the time, I could not get the lens to focus properly at 300mm even after trying several different focus types. I also think that unless you plan on using a tripod all of the time, save your money and purchase a lense with image stabilization. I purchased this lense for the telephoto capability and was not impressed at all.

All the Canon Quality at a very affordable price! Only used this lens a few times so far, but I love it already. Fast auto focus great for the wildlife - outdoors I shoot most often. Id rate it a Best Buy

This is a great zoom lens. I used it recently to photograph a hawk in my neighborhood and was told the pictures were good enough to be in a wildlife magazine. The zoom and focusing ability are great. Love it!!!!

I researched a lot of lenses before purchasing this one. Most of the comments compared this to high end zooms costing $500.00 and up. The most frequently cited shortcomings were the lack of image stabilation and a slow autofocus due to it not being ring style ultrasonic.

I am not a professional photog, but I can tell you that this is probably the best lens for the money. The autofocus takes in my estimation about 0.3 - 0.5 seconds compared to maybe 0.1 - 0.2 seconds on my other Canon lens which is the preferred style. The lens is Canon and lives up to their quality standard. If you are looking for a long reaching zoom lens that you will use on a tripod or in good lighting, you cannot beat this!
