The Sony STR-DH520 is an acceptable overall AV receiver with many strengths and a few weaknesses
First and foremost is the sound. For a unit of his price point and even more, it generates clean, crisp sound for my 12x20 living room, and is able to help drown out all but the loudest street noise from directly behind the couch. Next is its Bravia connectivity the official name escapes me at the moment but I can control all but the high-end features of the receiver through my Sony T.V. remote. I am looking forward to getting a remote control for my PS3, and I'm told I will be able to run all 3 from a single remote. Lastly is the level of detail and sound customization capability of the receiver is more than I expected in this price point.
A few issues I have with the unit The spring-clips for all speakers but the front channel don't allow for any sort of decent speaker cable to be used out of the box. You need to either tin up the ends of what you use or find mini-banana plugs for solid contact. While not an absolute, it will help with sound and the longevity of your speaker wire. My other grip centers around the lack of on-screen menu, as far as I have been able to ascertain. The simple on-unit screen is somewhat of a letdown in this modern age of bright, shiny GUI interfaces, but for the money and sound these are small complaints.
Overall, I highly recommend this receiver for someone with only $250-300 to spend on a unit, especially if you already have a Sony TV or PS3 as a bluray playerNetflixAmazon Prime watching unit.

Own this receiver for almost 1 yr. now. Not a glamorous visual LED display. But, it is an EXCELLENT receiver. Many HDMI inputs along with an easy setup and quick sync remote. I had a very expensive Onkyo prior and this is more superior. I have high end Klipchs speakers and they are used to the full potential thanks to this receiver. Thanks for reading. Hopefully you enjoy as much as I do.

I just hooked up my 7.1 Sony Receiver last night and the sound is amazing. I have to keep telling myself to keep it turned down because the apartment complex walls are so thin LOL. This is the first receiver I have ever bought but I am very satisfied by ease of use and setup. I was up an running, including running wires to my monitor speakers and subs in about an hour and a half tops. It feels like im really in a theater now. I never thought movie watching at home could get any better until now and at such a great price. Thanks Sony!
