Your goal is to achieve a true theater experience in your home. Accordingly, you're aware that audio is just as important an element of the cinematic experience as is video. And not just any audio either — surround sound. While front- and center-channel speakers handle movie dialogue and some audio effects, it's a system's rear-channel speakers that are responsible for completing the full, enveloping soundstage. Most surround speakers feature a small woofer and maybe a tweeter, both given a forward-firing position. In this configuration, the focused sound coming from the surround speakers creates a small, "ideal" listening space near the center of your room. Every aspect of a speaker's design — from driver materials to crossover circuitry — plays a critical role in the speaker's ultimate level of performance. One component that often goes overlooked, and yet makes a significant contribution to a speaker's audio reproduction, is the cabinet in which the driver is housed. Chances are, you're aware that it's the movement of air at the front of a speaker's driver that realizes the reproduction of sound. However, you might not have considered the role played by the air moving at driver's rear . . . inside the cabinet. Most speaker enclosures are "closed", meaning that they are completely sealed off. As you might imagine, closed systems often restrict a driver's movement — reducing efficiency and the output range — and congest moving air within the cabinet, ultimately causing unwanted resonance. Ensuring a listening experience free of distortion and enhanced by improved efficiency and dynamic range, each C 400 SUR sports a bass-reflex enclosure. Also known as ported enclosures, bass-reflex cabinets feature openings, or ports, in the cabinet that facilitate the movement of air behind a speaker driver. I dont think there is any better value on the internet then the Jamo c400SUR. The sound quality is amazing. I would highly recommend the speaker for anyone looking for superior sound but at an amazing price.

These speakers do exactlty what they are supposed to do and they do it well.
As a Dipole, they do a great job at filling the area behind the listener.
At less than $60 for the pair on clearance you wont find a better bargain.
While not the highest quality, I think they will meld well with most midrange systems and certainly compete well with speakers costing much more. For surround backs that handle mostly effects I think they do a great job. They hold their own agains my Polk fx series bipoledipole wich are my rear surrounds and my old Bose 201s that they replace.

For $60 these are great value. Im sure audiphiles would scoff at the sound, but they sound great as rears in my 5.1 setup. Probably not worth the $399 they list for, but definately worth 60.

Upon initial listening the vocals were suprisingly warm. I listened to a variety od music ranging from classical to rap and was impressed with these speakers ability to reproduce a lifelike stage behind me. I am currently running them off of an onkyo Txds777 and am very happy with them so far.

What do you want, for $60 or $80 a pair, depending on the sale price at the moment. While the supposed list price of $400 is laughable, these are competent surround speakers, especially for a small space.
I have two pairs of them. Beware, these do not like to be dropped, especially if they fall to the floor on a corner. The cheap plastic fake wood covering on the case will not look good after you drop one of these. I have put the pair of which I damaged one by dropping it, down in the basement where no one can see it other than myself, when I am on my treadmill.
All in all, these are good speakers, especially for the price. Just dont be expecting a *real* $400 set of speakers because these are NOT them.

Prior to purchasing the pair of JamoC400SUR, my home theater system consisted of these components.
Panasonic 42 inch Plasma - wall mounted.
Definitive Technology Mythos SSA - 42 inch Soundbar under the Plasma.
Onkyo - 507- 5.1 receiver.
Next adding, from Vanns, Klipsch Synergy- B3 Speakers, after the soundbar did not quite fill the room with a surround sound experience.
Still something was lacking, believing I did not fully appreciate the room size of 24 x 18 when purchasing components. Now what to do?
I began reading and learned about dipole speakers. Thinking this might be the answer, I originally looked at the JamC400SUR for the price, but more importantly not knowing if this would solve my problem. After speaking with a representative at Vanns, learning the history of The Jamo Company, the warranty, and price, I decided to try the JamoC400SUR. Once received, I disconnected the Klipsch speakers, note Jamo is now owned by Klipsch, the sound was and is remarkable as it pairs with the soundbar. I believe these speakers capture and resonate sound throughout the entire room, exactly what home theater is about. Next, I wondered if it was just me who thought this addition was the right choice. I invited the same four people who have listened to each component addition as I built my home theater room. All agree, that the addition of JamoC400SUR Dipole Speakers, is the reason this room is complete.
The Klipsch speakers have found a new home in a much smaller area, where they sound best.
Since completing that room. I decided to add these speakers to another room, same results. I could not be happier.

I have a onkyo 608 paired with an all infinity primus speakers, 2 362 floorstanders, 2 162 bookshelfs for back surrounds, now these to complete the side surrounds. So far I was very impressed with the overall build quality out of the box and the sound so far is great! I havent really tuned them yet, but even without i can hear a difference in the fullness of the surround channels. I recommend these! Great speakers for the price!

great surround speakers that packs a kick, can now hear special sound effects not heard before which makes every gun shot, car crash, action sequence, etc..so real now in dts decoding. only 4 stars because you can hear and see its build quality but if your look further, speaker is over glued on the inside which causes resonance, put flash light into ported bass enclose and you will see.

First off, Id like to say that these are excellent compliment speakers for those who want to flush-mount surround speakers to the wall. Extremely easy, and depending on placement, could really enhance your home theater.
Next some will probably proclaim me as crazy, I tried to hook these up as primary speakers on a 2.1 setup in our bedroom and was pleasantly surprised! As one other reviewer stated, dont expect these to do all the heavy lifting, but I was very happy at the sound that was achieved by these little guys when paired with a subwoofer - both music and normal TV were very nice for our bedroom. Depending on how you mount them could add some depth to the sound due to the dipole effect.
My main use was for the rear four speakers in a 7.1 setup. I am happy with them overall - I really dont think youll be disappointed. There isnt that much sound pumped to them, even in Blu-Ray, but what I heard certainly enhanced our listening.
Overall, we recommend these speakers... list price $399? I dont think so. I think a fair price for these are about $150 - 200 for the pair, but Vanns obviously sells for less, so this is a good value.

I purchased the Jamo C400SUR pair to replace a pair of Infinity Primus 162 bookshelf speakers in the surround position. They are powered by an Onkyo TX-SR805 av receiver and image very well with my other primus 362 towers, C350 center, and 2 PS10 subs. The Jamo C400SUR pair is an excellent choice for a small to mid size theater and have produced a sufficient amount of power to play at a level my wife and neighbors are comfortable with in a 16 x 13 room. The drivers are a little on the limited side in regards to range and a subwoofer will be a necessity for rear effect punch. They are fairly well defined speakers however, and handle midrange well if not a little on the warm side, yet with the dipole arrangement, the warm effect seems to create a more diffuse sound field. When I began to adjust the equalizer to achieve a flatter response, they became more directionally apparent and lost a bit of the immersion quality. Overall though, in a room where surround speakers have limited placement options, these dipoles offer more opportunity for arrangement and are more forgiving of higher positions. You know, those places you have to hang your surrounds so the wife can pretend they dont exist although, the convincing effect these produced even got her to jump once or twice. Good speakers and compared to other dipoles on the market, a great value.

Yeahhhhh!
I just received the Jamo C400 surround speakers. First off, they are beautiful speakers. The build oozes quality. I hooked them up and put in a movie, a family favorite. The speaker design is awesome. We loved how these speakers completed the surround sound experience. We were enveloped with sound and experienced the movie, as opposed to just watching the movie. Stunning sound, stunning style at a stunning low price!!!

Bought these to replace a pair of bookshelf speakers I was using for the rear surround channel on my 5.1 system. I had been looking for a pair of dipole surrounds for a while but the prices were quite high. I found these speakers, the price was right, so I gave them a try.
I noticed a major difference in the rear surround field. The sound was more 3 dimensional than before. They also held their own at louder levels. I was concerned being a smaller sized speaker my cerwin vega towers, and definitive centers, would overpower them. This was not the case however.
If you have a moderatly sized room, and receiver rated at 80 watts per channel or less. These speakers should fit the bill. Jamo recommends you mount these speakers on the side walls at a height of 6 feet. The speakers do have wall mounting brackets attached. Overall, these speakers
look good, perform well, and take up about half the space of a bookshelf speaker.

These are excellent rears, and for under 100 for the pair, its an amazing deal. The dipole design really gives great effects in surround movies. I was surprised at the power and small size. You can wall mount these puppies too, which keeps them out of the way and no stands are required.

I purchased these surround speakers when they were on sale and they look fabulous. The apple cabinets impart a rich looking feel. The sound on the other hand is very average. But this is not necessarily a problem since they are being used as surrounds. For movies, they are perfect for music they just dont add enough clarity or depth since these contain only small 4-inch woofers.
But dont let that discourage you unless you are trying to use these for front speakers which they are not designed for.
Excellent value for a first time purchase of Jamo speakers.
These surrounds work perfectly in a small room and provides a nice enveloping sound.

These speakers are great. This is my first dipole setup for the surrounds and it is great. I replaced a large satellite or small bookshelf speaker with these and the dispertion and surround effect is vastly inproved. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who is looking for a true surround sound setup on a budget.
This is also my first purchase from Vanns and it will not be my last. Speakers came in a very timely manner and there were no complications with the whole process.

The Product was delivered as said. Speaker sound is good have good surround sound with my current setup. Have a big concern the corners of the Right Speaker seems to be damaged, it may be happened during the shipping but it seems the corner of Roght Speaker is not uniform.

After purchasing the front bookshelf speakers and the center channel speaker in this series from Vanns, I could not contain myself from spending the mere $80 on these two surround sound speakers. The sound, quality, and design of these speakers is great. Im using these with a Denon 1610, and after calibrating the system, the surround sound really makes you feel like its coming from all around you. Not fatiguing when listening in full stereo mode and sound reproduction is very accurate. Would definitely recommend to others.

Ive been using these speakers for a few weeks now and they sound pretty good. There really isnt exaggeration in either the highs or lows, so at first listen there isnt really anything overly impressive about them but after watching my fair share of movies and listening to music, I think they are a great addition to my current setup. The speakers disperse the sound well in movies, making it hard to pinpoint exactly where the are--which is a good thing. I set my receiver to play my music out of the front stage, so there isnt really much to say about that.
As for the cosmetics and build quality, I was very impressed. I really like the Dark Apple Cherry finish, and the build quality seems very good.
I would recommend these to anyone wanting a cheaper set of surrounds.

I bought these speakers as the final piece of my 5.1 home theater system. The front and center speakers are also from Jamo.
It is hard to evaluate surround speakers because they are not very prominent in a properly performing system, they should be at a much lower volume than the front or center speakers.
These speakers are unique because they have dual drivers facing mostly away from each other. In my living room this means that one speaker of each pair is firing directly into the room and the other one is firing at, and reflecting from, the side walls, and this creates a nice Sound-Comes-From-Everywhere effect. Very nice.

These JAMO C400SUR are 6 ohm speakers, which work very well with my 7.1 receiver, but I did my homework first. I emailed and called the manufacture of my receiver and JAMO and asked if these 6 ohm speakers would do any damage to my receiver or the speakers, since the other speakers are 8 ohm. They both said no, as long as you do not push the volume too loud.
These JAMO speakers are very well made, and solidly constructed. They sound great and work perfect! I am fairly new to sound systems and there was no problem to connect them to my receiver. I need only to purchase a small powered subwoofer and I will complete my system. These JAMO speakers are a bargin at Vanns discounted price!
