Bought two sets of these speakers based on polks rep and reviews. I borderline hate them. They are tinny and completely lack the ability to replicate music even talk radio accurately. I may even be so bold as to say they compare to the quality of the clock radio I had in high school back in the eighties. My only hope is to install boxes around them and then pray. Oh, yes these are mounted in the ceiling. I will be generous and give them two stars betting on the come that boxes will make it right. For full disclosure, I am driving these with a harmon and kardon AVR20. With my old floor speakers I can deafen a participant with very high quality noise.

I added these speakers to my 5.1 surround system in my Home Theater to turn it into a 7.1. So far Im thrilled. They are a perfect match for MY system which was all Polk speakers. Seriously thinking of replacing the rears with the same speakers.
The one concern I had was the numerous complaints that the retaining clips break. While they are made of plastic....they are made of very STOUT plastic. Of course, if you install them with a cordless drill you certainly could over tighten them and break them. That is not a design or manufacturing fault.....sorry, but that would be operator error. I did use my cordless with a light touch, a lower torque setting & a careful eye on the speaker being drawn up flush to the ceiling. No issues at all. Most cordless drills have an adjustable clutch which, if properly adjusted down, would completely eliminate any chance of over tightening or breakage.

From the reviews, I was hoping that these would be good replacement for bookshelf speakers, but they fall short. They sound flat and like cheap speakers. I dont consider my self an audiophile, but I know what sounds good and these do not. They did install easily and they look good.

I installed these in my ceiling to replace a pair of Polk RT55s that were taking up too much space and were suseptible to damage from my 2yr old. These are used as surround speakers in the back of my living room. I covered the back side of the rafters with some sheet rock I had left over from another project to keep all the sound from getting lost in the attic. I assume a real box would improve the bass response but I dont see myself spending enough time in the attic crawl space to make that happen. These sound good, not as good as the RT55s but considering Im replacing two 6.5s in a box with one 8 in the ceiling, Im happy. My receiver crosses them over at 60Hz as opposed to the Full rating I received with the RT55s. Clearly these do not put out as much bass as the others but having a Sub and propper crossover means I dont notice the loss that much. In the instruction manual it says if using these as surrounds, point the aimable tweeter at the nearest wall for reflection. I did this and I notice the sound is much more diffuse than before. It is harder to tell where the sound is coming from. I believe this is how it is supposed to be but I will have to get used to it. Anyway the bottom line is that I am happy with these speakers. They blend in fairly well with the ceiling, they sound good and free up quite a bit of space in my living room. If I had to it over again I would.

For the last 8 years Ive been using a set of Polk RM6700 surround speakers and a Polk PWS303 sub to power my home theater setup. This has worked OK, but I recently got the itch to make some upgrades and it seemed like a good idea to get in-ceiling speakers for surrounds instead of having speakers suspended from the ceiling like I had before.
Originally, I was going to buy a pair of the TC60i speakers as surrounds but, when I saw the price of these RC60is on Vanns, I just couldnt resist.
Once the speakers arrived, I waited until my wife took the kids to swimming lessons so I could get these installed while she was gone to surprise her she is really happy about getting rid of the hanging speakers. Since I had already run wires when I installed the previous speakers, putting these up couldnt have been easier. I traced the included template with a pencil and then cut out the hole using a jig saw. After packing the area above the speaker with insulation, I just popped them in and screwed them down.
As a side note, I didnt have any problems with tight grills that many users have reported. They popped right off both speakers using a safety pin and went on just as easily.
Anyway, I had completely installed both speakers and cleaned up my mess before the wife and kids showed back up from swimming lessons. It was about 30 minutes before anyone realized I had even done anything.
Unfortunately, after listening to them for a couple of days against my previous smaller RM3250 satellites - I decided that they just werent cutting it. Honestly, these speakers dont even hold there own vs. the sats with 3.25 drivers in tiny enclosures. They sound kind of hollow with the empty space behind them. They were installed on the first floor of a 2-story house, so they dont have empty attic above them but there is a lot of hollow ceiling between the floors.
Lucky for me, the uninstall went just as smoothly as the original install. I replaced these with the TC60i surrounds that I had originally been looking at and the difference is amazing. The new TC60is are the best sounding speakers in my setup right now - although Im not done upgrading the other speakers yet. They also balance perfectly after running through the setup on my receiver.
Overall, I would only recommend these speakers as satellites if you are using really small speakers for your centerrightleft. If you ever plan to listen to music, then skip these - and I wouldnt ever use them in the front of a home theater setup. The LC60i speakers do cost more although I found a great price on sale, but I think they are worth it when it comes to sound quality - especially for something that will be installed in the ceiling.

I installed these speakers less than a week ago. So far they are working great. They are very quick to install and fill the surround of my home theater very well. The aimable tweeter allows better immersion in sound by refelcting the highs off the rear wall. Not to mention the excellent service from Vanns. Thanks.

Vanns delivered what they promised. Best price I could find. The Speakers themselves are perfect for my use. I am using them as surround speakers in the ceiling. I have never installed in-wallin-ceiling speakers before. It was surprisingly easy. The speakers sound better than the original home theater speakers. Being able to aim the tweeters really makes a great impact on the theater experience.

I installed the 8 speakers in my rec room over my pool table to achieve the stereo sound all over the large room. The effect was perfect, now wherever I stand I can hear the spacious sound field, and the blending of the Polk speakers with the rest of my audio system is excellent.
