What to do with all this footage?
Over the years, you've amassed a fairly substantial body of home video footage. And because you started filming back, oh let's say, in the 1980's, you've also got a pretty diverse collection of media: VHS tapes, mini DVDs, flash memory cards, and camcorder hard drives. You've thought about transferring it all to your computer's hard drive, but that's going to require a lot of space, plus there's no way to get the VHS to your computer. You need some other solution. You need the VRD-MC6 DVD recorder from Sony. The VRD-MC6 allows you to record video from a variety of sources — including VHS, digital camcorders, and DVRs — onto DVD. (The VRD-MC6 even supports encoding of 2-channel and 5.1-channel Dolby Digital audio!) Not only can the DVDs be stored easily and compactly, but they're easy to copy for friends and family and you can play them anywhere there's a DVD player. Further, the VRD-MC6 allows you to transfer photos from a variety of memory card formats to DVD. And the best part is . . . you don't even need a PC!
Nuts n' bolts stuff
Okay, so here's this all works. Using the VRD-MC6's USB, composite video, and L/R audio inputs, you can connect to everything from a VHS player, to a DVR, to a Sony Handycam digital camcorder. Once connected, you can begin transferring video footage from the source to a blank DVD disc in the VRD-MC6 recorder. The VRD-MC6 even sports an i.LINK (IEEE 1394) input for connection to a variety of digital camcorders. For photo recording, the procedure is much the same, except you insert the Memory Stick, SD, or xD Picture Card from your digital camera into one of the VRD-MC6's dedicated media slots, and begin transfer. Allowing you to achieve a polished finished product, the VRD-MC6 features a 2.7" color LCD viewscreen for previewing video and photos, as well as automatic DVD title, menu, and chapter setup.

I got this product so my wife could move tv shows from DVR to DVD. Hookup was super fast and when I tried it out this morning, it was a cinch to use! Documentation was good and I quickly moved several shows to a DVD so we could free up precious DVR storage space. I played it back on our blue ray player and it worked as expected. Fabulous product and Vanns got it to us extremely fast! Highly recommend it!

I purchased this for my son who is a ply by play hockey announcer, he is coipying all of his previous games that were on VHS. He is very pleased with performance and is using the product daily. It certainly is worth the investment since having his tapes copied by an outside source would have been very expensive.

I love this item! I have been busy transferring all of my old VHS videos to DVD. It is so simple to use. Set up is a snap. I am a little disappointed that I cant transfer from my Vado pocket video cam. It plugs into the USB port but isnt recognized. Other than that it is one of the greatest ways to preserve all of your old tapes. Video quality and sound are as good as the original on the tapes and I can see what is being recorded. I havent tried the slide show options yet but will soon. This is one nifty little gadget!

This DVD recorder has been a God send. Its so easy to use and does a great job. I take a couple of minutes to make sure the tape is at the beginning, insert a blank DVD, press 2 buttons and walk away for an hour. Its worth every cent. I now have all of those memories safely on DVD and dont have to worry about the tapes degrading anymore. Im a very happy guy.

I bought this for the sole purpose of getting movies off my Dish Network DVR onto DVDs for archive and to be able to watch on any TV.
It is perfect! So simple to use - I just connected the video and audio outs from the DVR to the ins of the VRDMC6 - turned it on and my Dish output showed right up on the little screen.
It asked me if I wanted to format my blank disk - I said yes...then pushed the Record button. Thats it - it works. You can even push the Record button again to pause - I used that to cut out all the commercials - cool!
Its simple to hook up, simple to use, and just works perfectly - zero complaints.
